Today, lateral thinking but I promiss that it’s related to our passion, that is working with yarn.
Firstly I have to tell you a story: my second surname (yes, here in Spain we have two surnames, father’s and mother’s) is Mouliaá.
We’ve been wondering for ages where did it come from. We had our suspicions but we didn’t know for sure until my uncle came up with our family tree as a result of years of research.
The first Mouliaá that we know about, Arnaldo Guillaume de Mouliaá, was a noble Frenchman born in the Bearne region (south of France) in the XVII century.
When I told Little Romulan the story he asked:
-“ Mummy, so we are rich, aren’t we?” (they are studying the Middle Age at school and everything related to nobles and knights is cool. Poor thing… ). Note: we have to revise together when the Middle Age started and ended, I think he’s a little bit confused.
Four generations later, a few years before the French Revolution, Pedro Mouliaá de Chardine and his brother Francisco moved to Lorca, a municipality and town in the autonomous community of Murcia in southeastern Spain, and married local women.
And now here it comes, the most disturbing fact… Guess what he did for living…He exported merino wool to France!! Yesss, I couldn’t believe it! Now I know where my addiction to yarns come from and that it’s not my fault ( are you reading this, Mc Husband?).
Besides my great-grandmother knitted, designed her own outfits and customized her straw hats which were a summer fashion hit and turned heads everywhere she went. My grandmother knitted too, sewed, did embroidery, painted and did other craft works. You see, mum! Now you know why I love scissors and tried to cut and customize your velvet trousers when I was a little girl. Oh, and please take your needles again, they are getting rusty!
In summary you can inherit the skills (I hope to have inherited at least a small fraction of them) and the addictions as well. This is going to turn the Mendelian genetics upside-down!
Now the freaking part of the story. I began to have lateral thoughts like what if I am the reincarnation of my ancestor and then my mother is my great-great-great-granddaughter? Or…
Yaayy! I’d better keep focused on crocheting, knitting and collecting yarns. By the way, this reminds me that I need another storage unit.
Ok, so this is my little story. Wold you like to tell me yours?
This is all for today which is no small thing.
Catch you next Friday!
