Blue Ice- Autumn/Winter 13/14

Nice colours, huh?

The variegated yarn that I’ve used in this set reminds me of the big blue icebergs. They show incredible colours and, as it happens with fire, you can spend hours and hours looking at it absolutely transfixed.

And you’d like to know why the icebergs are blue (if not I’m going to tell you anyway): basically what happens is that snow is white due to the air bubbles contained in it and it reflects light. Old icebergs are made of compacted ice, which doesn't contain air bubbles and absorbs all the light but blue. Other colours may be due to sediment layers, layers containing microorganisms or sea water that has frozen in cracks of the iceberg.
That’s all. Not such a big deal, right?

OK so today’s set consists of a highly textured crocheted hat and a mesh infinite scarf that you can wear in different ways. I don't use acrylic yarns but this one is so soft...Besides people allergic to wool deserve it!

Superwoman does not exist, does she?

Have a look at the scarf pattern below.
Not so long ago: mother of 4 girls, self-employed, late-night student.

Present day: mother of 4 “girls”, grandmother of 6, self-employed, keeps studying (obviously different subjects than in the past).

In addition she’s very fond of her chicks and grandchicks, caring and loving, supportive, strong, determined and an extremely modest person. She’s the life of the party, the first one to arrive and the last one to leave, the family psychologist and an unconditional shoulder to cry on.

Years ago I was having a conversation about the difficulties of being a working mother with someone that told me that Superwoman does not exist but my reply was:
- “Of course she exists and I know her!”.

Things happen

Carpal tunnel syndrome.

You know what Pope said: "To err is human..." and I must be the best human in the entire world because I keep making mistakes every day.

To be able to show you one of my creations per week and post on Fridays too I began to work into the night, knit or crochet compulsively and fit everything into my daily schedule millimetrically timed. The peak load has become a mountain range.

I suppose that as every knitter/crocheter (in fact any artisan) my fear is to be unable to use my hands. When hands and wrists begin to cry it becomes a problem and if you do not solve it then you are a surgery fodder.

Recycling T-Shirts- edited 15/07/14

T-shirt yarn handbag, almost finished.

I've always tried to recycle as much as I can. About three years ago t-shirt yarn and other related projects cached my eye immediately.

I plunged into the web and began to search frantically for howto's and ideas.

Commercial bobins are ok (the ones that I'm currently using for crocheting the bag you can see in the pic, haha!) but I was trying to show Mrs. Soft Kitty and Little Romulan what can be done with the old clothes, especially with the old t-shirts:

Purple Reign- Autumn/Winter 13/14

Sooo sweet! (the cowl, not the model)

Visualize the situation: We're just about to go out and suddenly everybody but me has to do something important- we're in a hurry, clock is ticking and I know we're going to be late- I tell them to get everything they need, push them out of the house, get into the car and off we go...
Then I find out that I forgot my hat at home but it's too late to come back.

Dammit! Now what? It' freezing cold out there and my ears are going to drop off my head in two minutes.

Baby Hat & Sleeping sack pattern

This pattern was love at first sight and as we have expanded our already huge family (not my fault, a new nephew) I decided that it would make the perfect present to welcome Mateo.

I found a beautiful self striping antibacterial and blahblahblah yarn in neutral tones -you know, they tell you that it’s a boy and you end up with a tiny creature with ponytails- and began to work on it.

The pattern has been designed by Comfort Wool: sleeping sack pattern, here and hat, here.

They are simple and cute patterns and it’s been a pleasure knitting them.

What do you think?

???? Set- Autumn/Winter 13/14

Nadia: beautiful and stylish, my friend

I don’t know if to name this set Flojgrönhansen or Machu Picchu. Nordic or Peruvian? No idea…

But it is really beautiful. I fell in love with the colours of this yarn (you see, I’m a yarn addict, meow!).

I have crocheted this set using the same stitch pattern as this cowl and I still haven’t figured out which side I prefer.

So this is a reversible set of hat with earflaps and a short cowl crocheted in a 100% Wool yarn with lovely colours (I’ve already mentioned it, haven’t I?).

By the way, what name would you choose for this set?
