Tweed Short Cowl Pattern

Mrs. Soft Kitty is cold-sensitive but she doesn't like long scarves so I came up with this super-warm short cowl for her.

This pattern is easy, in fact it’s easy as pie. I was wondering if to publish it but it worked so well with the yarn that I chose that I felt the urgent need of sharing it with you.

The measurements are approximate so the gauge is not important. If you choose to work with other hooks or yarns you only have to adapt the number of stitches in order to achieve the measurements of the cowl.

Let’s go then!

Skill level: easy.

Materials:
  • Bulky yarn for 6mm hook (mine was a tweed blend of wool and alpaca from Ice Yarns).
  • 6 mm hook.
  • Stitch marker.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Scissors.
  • Losts of love.
Abbreviations:
  • HDC: half double crochet.
  • SC: single crochet.
Measurements:
  • Width: 26 inches.
  • Length: 12 inches.
Gauge: 12 HDC/4 inches.

Pattern:

Rnd 1: 74 HDC chainless foundation + 1 HDC that you work to join with the first st (you can learn “how to” here and here). Put the stitch marker at the beginning of the next round. Note: if you use another hook or weight of yarn make sure that your HDC foundation measures 26 inches.
Rest of the rounds: continue working in the round (do not join rounds), HDC in the loop behind the two you would normally work with, until the piece measures 12 inches.
When you are 4 sts before the marker work 2 SC, skip the st and make an invisible join (invisible join here).

That’s it. Dead easy, huh? I still don't know which way I like it best, right or wrong side, that is the question. See you very soon!
