Aubergine Beret Pattern

The original pattern has been designed by Teresa Richardson from Crochet Geek. Thank you very much Teresa for letting me modify and shrink your pattern for Blythe.

Skill level: intermediate.

Materials:
  • 3 Ply light yarn or any yarn for 3-3.5 mm hook (I’ve used Katia Promo Fin acrylic yarn purple and lilac and Katia Carnaval eyelash yarn, same tones).
  • 3 mm hook.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Stitch marker (optional).
  • Scissors.

Abbreviations:
  • Ch: chain.
  • St: stitch.
  • Slp St: slip stitch.
  • Sc: single crochet.
  • HDC: half double crochet.
  • Rnd: round.
  • MC: main colour (purple).
  • CC: contrasting colour (lilac).
Pattern:
  •  Rnd 1: With MC Ch 3, join with a Slp St. Ch 3 and work a HDC+CH1. Work 5 more HDC+CH1 for a total of 6 HDC+CH1. Do not join.
  • Rnd 2: HDC+CH1 twice in each space between HDCs (now you have 12 HDC+CH1). Put marker at the end of the round.
  • Rnd 3: HDC+CH1 twice in each space (24 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 4: HDC+CH1in each space (24 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 5: HDC+CH1 in the next space, increase in the next space. Repeat all the way around (36 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 6: HDC+CH1 in each space (36 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 7: HDC+CH1 in each of the next 3 spaces, increase in the next space. Repeat all the way around (45 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 8: HDC+CH1 in each space (45 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 9: HDC+CH1 in each of the next 4 spaces, increase in the 5th space (54 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 10: HDC+CH1 in each space (54 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 11: HDC+CH1 in each of the next 4 spaces, increase in the 5th. Repeat all the way around (64 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnds 12-14: HDC+CH1 in each space around (64 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 15: HDC+CH1 in each of the next 4 spaces, decrease over the next 2 spaces. Repeat all the way around (54 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 16: HDC+CH1 in each space all the way around (54 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 17: work 4 decreases at regular intervals (50 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 18: HDC+CH1 in each space (50 HDC+CH1).
  • Rnd 19: work HDC decrease and CH1, repeat all the way around (25 HDC+CH1).
Band:

  • Rnd 20: HDC in every space and St around (50 HDC).
  • Rnds 21-23: change colour to CC and work HDC in between HDCs of the previous round (50 HDC). Join with a Slp St skipping the first space, secure and cut off the yarn.
  • Rnd 24: join the eyelash yarn to one of the Sts of the last round and work reverse SC all the way around. Reverse SC in the first St of previous round.
  • Rnd 25: keep crocheting SC through the front posts of the HDCs of Round 22 the usual way (that is, anticlockwise). Secure and cut the yarn off.
At this point you’ll better be alone at home, work (whatever) because you’re going to need tons of patience and no witnesses to your swear words, no Mc Husband asking for something that inexplicably he cannot find (darlingI’vetoldyouathousandtimes), no kiddies cries dissolving your neurones...Keep calm.
You can brush the eyelash yarn to bring out the hairs but I think it’s better to use a needle so that they come out intact (you know what happens when you brush yarn, don’t you?). Now you can trim some hairs of the lower part of the beret so that they do not poke into her eyes.

Anyway no hard feelings on me, ok? Good luck and see you next Wednesday.
